DIY Brush Holder From Candle Jar

I try to save money wherever I can and sometimes that means recycling items I already own to get another use out of it. This DIY brush holder is the perfect example!

I start by using candle jars that I've already purchased. The ones from Bath and Body Works are my favorite size! They are easy to clean, they don't have any plastic rims, and they hold a large amount of brushes. The first thing you want to do is remove the sticker on the front of the jar. I don't remove the bottom sticker yet, because with a little soap and water it rubs right off.

Next, grab a cup of boiling hot water, and place your glass jar in an empty sink. Gently pour the boiling water into your glass and please be careful not to splash yourself! Then you wait. You can let this sit until cool or let it sit overnight. What this does, is it brings that extra bit of candle that doesn't burn and melts it to the top of the jar. Once it is cooled the melted wax, floats to the top and hardens, making it a super easy clean up. You can easily remove this, and toss it away. You may need to repeat this a couple of times until all of the wax is removed, but usually if you use hot enough water it does the trick. You should be left with something like this.

Next, remove that bottom sticker, and the wick tabs at the bottom. They are glued down, but usually fairly easy to remove. A spoon or metal scraper of some kind will be the easiest to use. Wash with warm soap and water and voila! A clean jar! Feel free to place beads, pearls, rocks, diamonds, whatever you want in your jar for your brushes. Just as an example, I placed fabric at the bottom of mine. You don't have to use anything if you don't want to.

Engagement Collaboration with Adornit and Developing Bliss

I think collaborations are one of my favorite things. We had so many people that helped pull this together and it all turned out so beautiful. Adornit Clothing Boutique was so very kind and let us take some of their gorgeous clothes for our work. Amber Lindhardt helped style these adorable outfits, and I loved every single one of them! Ruth Crozier from Developing Bliss was such a sweetheart and took this photo shoot on for me when my previous photographer was unable to do so. She did such a good job!

Brock and Taylor are engaged and getting married next month, and I am so excited for them. They are the sweetest couple, and I absolutely loved working with them. Even though they already have some engagement photos, I knew I wanted them for this shoot! They were such good sports, and froze throughout the entire evening. They are amazing!

Miss Taylor, does not wear a speck of makeup on a regular day to day basis (and she definitely doesn't need to!) so I tried to keep things pretty simple. I was very light handed in my application. I started on her lid and lightly packed on my favorite makeup geek eye shadow in the shade "cosmopolitan" which is a coppery pink color. On top of that I took my Lorac Unzipped Gold Palette in the shade "UNINHIBITED". In her crease I used a very light hand and did a very very soft cut crease, using the shades "UNDENIABLE" and "UNEDITED" from that same Lorac Pallette. Her lip color is "Sheer Ladyflower" from Urban Decay. Doesn't it look so pretty on her?

Here are some images of these outfits from Adornit! If you have not been in there yet, I highly recommend it.

Kenzie: Prom Styled Shoot

Kylee Ann Photography asked me to do the makeup for this gorgeous prom styled shoot, and I was over the moon excited. Everything was so perfect. From the model, the dress, the hair, the makeup, the location, and lets not forget all of the amazing photography. I felt like it all came together so nicely. As I was looking at these photos I was amazed at how all of them turned out. They are so beautiful.

I did a harsh outer edge, and a soft cut crease on my model Kenzie. I used the Stila palette on her eyes for the very first time and I was so impressed. I used the colors: vitality, individual, being, and essence. Here is the beautiful palette for anyone interested. I bought the Stila Eyes Are The Windows in "Soul" http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod10991253

For Kenzie's lips I used the essence brand #13 "LOVE ME"
For cheeks I used the BECCA Beach Tint, water resistant cheek color, in the color Guava. I put BECCA liquid shimmering skin perfector in the shade "Opal" on the highest points of her cheekbones, and the pressed shimmering skin perfector in the shade "Rose Gold" on top of her blush, to lock in that color even more.

Here is the final result. I have to share from more than one photographer because they all turned out so nice!

About Brushes Part 2.

Hi guys! Sorry it has taken so long to get this post up. We just got a puppy, and life has been chaotic to say the least. Here is this post about brush cleaning, as promised!

I use two things to clean my brushes. I use the elf brand makeup cleanser and spritz my brushes for daily use, it is cheap, it works, and it smells amazing. For deep cleaning my brushes, I use a very simple, cheap, and easy formula, and it works better than anything else I have ever tried (thanks pinterest).
Easy Brush Cleaner:
1 tablespoon of distilled white vinegar
1 tablespoon of blue dawn dish soap
1 cup of steaming hot water

Directions
Begin by pouring the hot water into a large cup, or jar. Measure out the tablespoon of soap and vinegar and mix until it is combined. THATS IT!!
Place your brushes underneath warm water to rinse off any dirt. Place the brushes, one or two at a time and let sit about 30 seconds, and swirl until the brush looks clean. You may need to make more of the brush cleaner, and repeat this step. I start with the least dirty and work my way to the most dirty. Rinse them off again, try to gently press any excess water out, reshape, and
dry. I like to roll a towel on each end, and that way I can dry more this way. Always face your brushes down. They can breed mold between the wet bristles and it wont dry if they are placed with the brush head up. Once my brushes are completely dry, I fluff and reshape them again. I do this once a week, for my own personal use.

I am not an expert in brush cleaner. I have used this method for about two years, and haven't noticed a problem with any of my brushes. This could have different results for you, as I am not a "brush cleaning expert" please use this method at your own risk. I will say that I have tried numerous things to clean brushes, and this by far gets them the most clean. I did not come up with this method on my own, I just came across a pin on pinterest for it. It did not have a link, but if anyone finds one then please post down in the comments.

 Thanks for reading!
